Final Project for MCOM 63

10 12 2009

Below you will find a series of projects that I produced during my final semester at San Jose State University in my New Media class. My subject was automobiles in which I produced a brochure, website, and a blog. I also learned how to use  various application in Adobe CS 3 this semester and how to adjust assets using Photoshop.

In a group project with two other students we created a wikispace in which we contributed various statistics, articles, and images about the California Prison System.

InDesign Project

10 12 2009

The Indesign project entailed putting together a brochure using Adobe InDesign using text and photos. I then saved the document from InDesign to a PDF and then from that I saved it again as a JPEG file. Click on image to enlarge.

Mini movie

10 12 2009

In this part of the final project, I filmed and produced a mini movie by using Windows Movie Maker. First, I shot clips on my camera and then I imported those clips along with some images and music into WMM. I then spit the clips to size, added a title and credits page, added a few transitions and effects and then I saved the movie. I then inported it into YouTube and linked it into WordPress.

Photoshop Final Project

10 12 2009

The first image is the original image taken by me at The Ford Store in Morgan Hill. I then imported the original into Adobe Photoshop and adjusted the size of the image to fit to the web. Then I re-saved the image for Indesign in the third image. The last image I applied a blue filter onto the image using Adobe Photoshop.

GM CEO gets the boot

8 12 2009

Fritz Henderson continued to downsize the automaker after its emergence from bankruptcy. He sought to scale down GM to just four core brands.

GM’s CEO Frederick “Fritz” Henderson stepped down Tuesday after the board determined that the company wasn’t changing quickly enough.

The resignation comes just eight months after Henderson, 51, replaced former chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner, who was ousted March 29 by the Obama administration’s government’s auto task force.

Henderson has been with GM his entire career and was the government’s choice to run the beleaguered company after Wagoner left. Whitacre, picked by the government in June to be chairman of the new GM, is considered an industry outsider, having run AT&T Inc. for 17 years.

Henderson continued to downsize the automaker after its emergence from bankruptcy. He sought to scale down GM to just four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. While he has largely succeeded in that goal, attempts to sell the company’s other brands have hit obstacles. Earlier this week, Swedish luxury sports car maker Koenigsegg Group AB backed out of a deal to buy GM’s Saab brand. GM said Tuesday it has some interested bidders but will wind down Saab if nothing materializes by the end of the year.

GM also is winding down Pontiac and was successful in winning a tentative sale of Hummer to a Chinese construction machinery maker.

Ex-Ford engineer charged with stealing trade secrets

19 10 2009

FordFormer Ford engineer Xiang Dong Yu, 47, was arrested on Wednesday at Chicago’s O’hare airport. Yu is charged with stealing trade secrets from the automaker after accepting a job in China.

A federal indictment charges Yu, a Chinese national living in Beijing, with theft of trade secrets, attempted theft of trade secrets and unauthorized access to a protected computer, Terrence Berg, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, said Thursday in a statement.

Yu was a Ford product engineer from 1997 to 2007. In December 2006, he accepted a job at the China branch of a U.S. company, according to a Justice Department release announcing the charges.

The indictment alleges that Yu copied 4,000 Ford documents, including sensitive design documents, onto an external hard drive after accepting his new job but before notifying Ford of his departure. The documents included design specifications for engine and transmission mounting subsystems, electrical distribution systems and electrical subsystems. The indictment alleges that Yu also tried to use Ford documents to get a job with a Chinese auto company in 2005 and again in 2008.

Each of the counts of theft and attempted theft of trade secrets carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine, the Justice Department statement said. The count charging unauthorized access to a protected computer carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the statement said.
